There are very few audio component makers who have gone to this extreme to give high fidelity surround in the tight confines of a headphone. This surprisingly normal sized set of headphones straps a total of 8 speakers to your head, four on each side that are capable of finely tuned multichannel positional audio reproduction. This contrasts with some other gaming headsets that are so large you end up looking like a complete goon. The Vibras Five.One USB is powered by a high quality (albeit oversized) USB preprocessor sound card that is always tethered to the headphones. It can also optionally outputs to fiber optic SPDIF digital signal for component amplification. The USB sound processor functions in 2 modes, one for Dolby digital 5.1 and another for 2 channel stereo. The included software lets you quickly configure your desired sound stage positioning virtual speaker locations and distances from you. Cyberlink PowerDVD 7 is included for converting 5.1 sound from DVDs or Blu-Ray discs into multichannel audio. More pedestrian movie playing software will down-mix to stereo in deference to most limited PC configurations having only 2 speakers. A clamp on microphone is thoughtfully included for VoIP and in-game chatting.
